Rugby for the Girls
I've been vaguely aware of this site for some time, but wasn't sure of it about what I thought of it. Very professionally designed its a site about rugby for a female audience, rather than about women's rugby and it seemed to initially offer nothing to anyone wanting to actually play the game. Indeed there was virtually no mention of the female game on it.
Now though they do have a (17 year old) player from Quins who has started writing for them. Okay she has only played once in two and a half years - but its at least a small acknowledgement that the site is not totally dismissive of your game.
Incidentally "Ellie" does not say why she has been out of the game for so long - though until recently girls rugby in Middlesex was a bit shaky - especially compared to, well, Herts. Some may recall that our only foray into the capital was a distinctly unmemorable day at Finchley in Season One... since when we haven't been back. Maybe it might be worthwhile venturing south of the M25 again next season?
After all by the sounds of it they are desperate for games - "As you might expect though, there aren’t a great number of 17 year old girls who want to play rugby, and matches have been few and far between" says Ellie. Maybe one of you might wish to put her right on that one at least?
But as well as that there is an article on some rugby training camps for girls next summer, so they are not entirely antipathetic towards female rugby. And I guess some of the U17s in particular (maybe not the U14s... yet...) might just appreciate the general tone of the website itself.
So go over there, take a look, and see what you make of it.
