Sevens news

After two years in Leighton Buzzard, the National Sevens returns to Harpenden this year. Apparently Leighton Buzzard no longer have a women's team, which may have prompted the move, though Harpenden do not have one either...

Its also confirmed that the U18 and U15 events are on the Saturday (23rd), and the seniors on the Sunday. It is interesting to see that the senior tournament costs £150 per team to enter - more than twice the cost of the junior tournament - though the seniors do get a post-tournament party and camp.

Every National Sevens has been an emotional day as it has seen us say farewell to one or two players. This season its going to be huge with so many of our longest serving players moving on. But it need not be the last time that everyone plays together in a Letchworth shirt.

We'd almost have enough 18 year-old players to enter the seniors on the following day (especially if a few former players could be pulled in), but maybe its a year too early this year. Looking ahead, though, it would be great to enter a "reunited" team next year, perhaps - especially as teams like Hitchin don't seem to enter the event. Alternatively, Wonky has also suggested that we could also enter a team in the 2010 Bournemouth Sevens (which - a seriously huge event that men's team took part in last year). The one tiny snag is that - this year at least - the Bournemouth and National Sevens are both on the same weeks, which is a remarkable planning achievement by one or both of the tournament organisers!
