For the second time in a week, Letchworth girls found themselves up against a top class Canadian touring side - this time in the form of Yeti RUFC from British Colombia.
On Sunday we were also joined by a combined Kettering/Old Northamptonians side for a round of 7s matches at Legends Lane. First up was the tourists against the hosts in what turned out to be a very even, hard fought game. The Yetis took an early lead with a try out wide which could not be converted in the strong wind but that was soon cancelled out by a try under the posts from Sasha which gave Nikki an easy conversion and Letchworth a slender 2 point lead. Back came the Yetis to storm in for a try under the posts which was duly converted to restore their advantage.
Letchworth were still battling hard and began making inroads on the left wing with Bubbles making a break only to be hauled down by determined chasing back from the Yetis and then for Carla to break through. Although Carla was caught some 15 metres from the line, Charlie was running a good support line and took Carla's offload to score out wide.
All tied at 12 points each and time running out, one could be forgiven for believing that the game was heading for a draw. The Yetis didn't see it that way - almost immediately from the restart an excellent individual run saw them score another try -
- and seal a well deserved victory 17-12.
In the next match the Yetis were against Kettering/Old Northamptonians who were in fine form. In another fiercely contested match, Kettering ran in 5 tries to win the game by 25-7.
The third match was between Kettering/Old Northamptonians and a combined Yetis/Letchworth 'Barbarians' side. This match resulted in another win for Kettering/Old Northamptonians by 20-10 and then Kettering/Old Northamptonians completed the hattrick by defeating the home side 15-5 in the last game.
Results :
Letchworth 12-17 Yetis
Yetis 7-25 Kettering/Old Northamptonians
Barbarians 10-20 Kettering/Old Northamptonians
Letchworth 5-15 Kettering/Old Northamptonians
Letchworth scorers :

Fun & Games
After the rugby and something to eat, came an array of other games between the Yetis and the hosts. If my understanding is correct, the games were all tied at 2 wins each and the decider was the 'three-legged' race ...
- which resulted in a narrow victory to Letchworth.
At the end of events at the Letchworth club some girls from both sides were found keeping warm by the barbecue -
All in all, a very good days sport. Many thanks to all our visitors for making it such an enjoyable day for everyone - we hope to see you all again before too long!
